Reflective writing (racial discrimination)

Racial discrimination is still very prominent, as people still deep down have the same old minds decades ago. Racism is always a difficult topic but the news and social media provides evidence that it still exists and continues to impact how we engage with each other in the United States. Racism is so prevalent that it causes challenges for learning and school experiences. Racial bias in our schools affects student learning and school discipline, as well as influences how students engage with each other. Racism is the act of discrimination against a different race based on the belief or assumption that one’s race is superior. According to the US Government Accountability Office Report on Discipline Disparities, black students are disproportionately suspended in schools across the country. This is not fair to the students who are treated differently. School administrators and school communities can work together to combat the effects of racism.
